36th Farmers Day Celebrations: 4 GARFA Members Took Awards

The records that the publicity committee received so far indicate that 5 of our members took award during the Farmers' Day celebration in their various district/Municipal/ Metropolitan Assemblies.

Farmers' Day is a special day set aside by the Government of the Republic of Ghana to celebrate and award deserving farmers. The day is celebrated every first Friday in December, which is a holiday but this year because of December Presidential and Parliamentary Election the day was rather observed on the first Friday in November, 2020.


The following farmers took award:


1. Mr James  Owusu Antwi of Akyedze farm (Overall Best Farmer), Atwima Mponua District Assembly.



 2. Mr Harrison Addey of The rabbit masters Ltd.(1st runner-up), Adenta Municipal Assembly



3. Mr Bernard Larkai of bossmajor farms (Overall Best Farmer) East Ayawaso Municipal Assembly.



4.Mr. Maxwell Asare obuobi of Bobimax farms (Best Rabbit Farmer), Ga Central Municipal Assembly.



We say 'ayeeko' (congratulations) to all our gallant farmers and we taking this opportunity to encourage the rest of our members not to give up on their good works.

Farmer Brown Family Garden

 Farmer Brown is a household name in the rabbit industry not only Ghana but Africa as a whole. Most of us thought he farms only rabbit, Farmer Brown is a complete Farmer. Read the following work from Slow Food Foundation for Biodiversity. The farmer Brown family garden is about 600m2. and is maintained by Adotei Brown, popularly known as Farmer Brown, his wife, and their two children. The garden is cultivated with peppers intercropped with noni plants, cocoyams, and cassava. Rabbit manure is used to fertilize the soil. Peppers harvested from the garden are sold on the market and also for home consumption. Excess peppers are sundried for preservation. The cocoyam leaves locally known as kontomire are harvested and used in the preparation of vegetable stew. This stew is usually eaten with the boiled tubers of the cocoyam.
