The Need For Adding Value (VA)
What is *VA aka Value Addition*?
VA means transforming a product to take a new look different from its raw state.
In simple terms, you could look at VA as adding a special or unique feature to a product. By giving a product a name increases how valuable that product is.
For example one can find an unbranded smoked rabbit on the local market and a
branded one such as Rabbit Masters.
WHAT ARE THE IMPORTANCE OF VA IN RABBIT FARMING?
Though rabbits are beautiful in nature and seen by many as could be pets, just a handful will consider them as such because the African blood doesn't take delight in such nonsense. Therefore we will overlook value addition in the pet industry and concentrate on the food industry since it has the highest dailytial of reducing rabbit population daily in millions by means of slaughtering.
One of the major importance of value addition, is to make a product stand out tall from it's competitors in terms of possessing a carefully crafted quality which appeals to the human senses.
What are some of the VA ways
1) by skinning
2) by singeing
3) by smoking
4) by mincing
4) by salting
5) by fermentation
6) by curing
7) by marinading etc
After the above processes, meat should be nicely packaged and well branded.
Further valued could be added to get the meat closer to the stomach. That's where BBQ, grills, pizza, shawarma, pepper soup and the rest come in.
Do you know that somewhere in Accra, a pot of soup with 1kgof rabbit costs about GH100
To help to address this challenge, the is why the Greater Accra Rabbit Farmers Association is organizing the GARFA Shawarma Workshop. Read the poster for more information.
Well done Guys
